Warhammer World!

It’s been a pretty eventful week or two!

I and a friend travelled down to Nottingham to see Warhammer World for the first time.

I’m totally blown away by the experience, it was utterly fantastic.
We did everything but play a game while we were there, I’ve literally got the T-shirt (the burgundy Mechanicum logo one)
Brought back a bunch of “souvenirs” too.
Not started working on them yet but in the bags are:
A pack of Thallaxii with a Photon Thruster to round out my existing squads
A pack of Myrmidon Secutors to expand my existing squad
And a pack of a Solar Auxilia Veletaris Storm Section. I love the look of them and decided I really wanted a squad of them!

They’ll have to wait though, because I’m working my way through a pack of Vorax Battle Automata and Kataphron Destroyers.

I have one of each done!

Amazingly, I was able to paint the Kataphron in only 25 minutes! This bodes well for getting a whole unit of them together for my Cult Mechanicus forces…

I was also able to get around to painting my Hellbrute conversion shown in my last post.
Thoroughly pleased with the results

With all the stuff on my plate, you’d think that’d be enough, but after seeing the Warlords that they have at Warhammer World, I’ve also ordered the Head of one to start me off. it should be here Today! (omg, totally forgot it was coming in all the chaos. now I’m gonna have to reorganise my plans for the weekend again :P)
I’m expecting to get the keys to my new flat in the next week or two as well as the Manchester public transport being heavily disrupted for a few months. so my hobby may be likewise disrupted. I do my best work in the store where there’s fewer distractions…

Ah well. it should all work out.
But in any case, after I’m settled into my new place, I intend to order the rest of the Warlord, I’m hoping the specific weapons I want to fit it with will have been released by the time I’m ready for them, I’m planning on the Apocalypse Missiles (confirmed as the next release for it), a volcano cannon, and the Saturnine Claw. (A hellstorm template attack with a powerful melee that re-rolls armour penetration too! picture a blowtorch for a fist, the size of a tank.)

Kastelan Robots and Warlord Titan

I finished the paintjob on my first Kastelan today.
It still needs markings and insignia but the actual paintscheme is done.

For bonus points, on saturday I was able to finally get around to painting my Titan Princeps in honor of the announcement of the new Warlord Titans

Enjoy the pictures!

After a lot of hopping up and down in joy over the Warlord’s debut at Warhammer World this weekend (they had FOUR of them in the displays!) I’ve made the dubiously sane decision to buy one.

warlord-sizecomp
The price-point is estimated at £1200. easily twice as much as the Reaver. I’m hoping that includes the weapon systems, because Reaver weapons run at about £50 each and spending another £200 on top of the base cost would be pushing it.

I’ve already preordered Horus Heresy Book 5 (which contains the rule-set for the Warlord)

I estimate that constructing and painting the Warlord will take me about five months. maybe less if I’m really on the ball. I’m going to be taking everything I’ve learned building Meliora Bellator and applying it to this project.
We’re talking heavy use of pinning and bolts. countersinking magnets into the shoulders. stuff like that.
My reaver is adaptable, I can swap out any of the weapons, however the power fist is a chore to deal with, requiring power tools to remove it safely.

At any rate, spreading the £1200 price-tag over five months averages out at £8 a day. I think I get good value for money! And the biggest and baddest war machine anyone can bring to bear in Manchester’s gaming community, full stop. So there’s that too!

For bonus points, my house-mate has been infected by the same madness as me and has also pledged to buy a warlord. So we’ll be sharing resources and tools. as well as experiences in the process.

After news got around at my local store, I’ve already received a preemptive Challenge from store staff for a 10k point battle in which both warlords face down an entire armoured company of Guard.
I fancy my chances…

Another Dark-mech Dunecrawler!

Since the first one was such a roaring success, I decided to build it a brother!

Nothing much to say on construction, it’s pretty nigh identically built.
I had to buy a bunch more stuff to do it, but I’m not the slightest bit regretting the decision 😛
Bonus points: I get a new Deathstrike to pair with the first one!

I’ll figure out what to do with two helldrakes worth of wing and head parts later.
Maybe some terrain pieces…

the new one is the one on the left with the silvery base rim.

As far as painting went: I didn’t quite manage to keep the smoothness on the plates. I think that was my primary mistake, the result looks like it has too much paint on it.
I added too much typhus corrosion to the model and it gave it a grainy effect all over.
Should of just done it on the exposed workings and left the plates alone.
Ah well, live and learn, maybe if I make another I’ll remember this 😛

I’m thinking I need a warpsmith to go with these guys 🙂

Skitarii!

Woohoo!

It’s about time, but Games Workshop have finally released a Codex: Skitarii

Of course since Admech are my primary armies (plural) I had to get the limited edition RustStalker codex, And what with rumours saying there’s going to be a Cult Mechanicus release in a month or two I’m probably going to be doing the same thing with that…
Eh, ah well. My love for the Omnissiah knows few bounds. what’s a £100 between friends?…

But in any case, it’s been a..expensive few weeks.
I preordered each week examples of every single thing the Skitarii got.
I’m now the proud and happy owner of:
a squad of rangers,

* A squad of rangers
* A squad of Vanguard
* A squad of Ruststalkers
* A Sydonian Dragoon
* A Sydonian Ballisterius
and depending on my conversion plans, either one or two of the Onager Dunecrawlers.

General review:
The rangers/vanguard kit is wonderful. full of parts and bitz for other conversions as well as making a complete 10 man squad in each box.
I habitually bought two immediately because I assumed that the kit would have only five models in it and I wanted a complete squad. pleasant surprise that I was able to make both Rangers and Vanguard immediately!

The ironstrider kits are fantastic, much more dynamic looking than the sentinels usually turn out.
My only gripe is that the legs aren’t poseable, you have to go with either left leg forward or right leg forward. No standing poses allowed apparently.
The Fluff for them is that they literally never stop moving. when not in battle they’re placed on treadmills because if they ever get turned off, the tech-priests have no idea how to turn them back on again 😛
Amusing, but apparently there are literally thousands of them in use. the idea that no tech-priest ever decided it was in their best interests to experiment with a damaged one and figure out how to make it work tickles me no end.

The Onager is an even nicer kit. basically a tank turret on a quadrupedal leg assembly.
Those legs are not poseable either, but can swivel at the hip. so there’s some room for poses there.
My brain is full of ideas for this.
The ones currently holding best purchase are for a quadrupedal assault bot, maybe something to make use of the Hydra Autocannons I’ve got sitting in my bitz-box…
The other is for a walking chariot-platform for my Magos. I expected the leg assembly to be perhaps a little bigger, so I’m not so sure about this idea now.
Still messing with parts from a Taurox to see if I can make a conversion that I’m happy with.
We’ll see. right now the Autocannon assault bot is appealing slightly more.
But the game on saturday I’ve got lined up would benefit a lot from my simply making a second Onager.

examples from each kit are currently on display at my local GW, I’ll recover them in the next couple days for a complete photo-op, but in the meantime. here’s what I’ve got!
